Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib
Is one of the five Takhts (thrones) or highest seats
of the religious authority. Situated atop a low hill, it gives
a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The present building
of the Takht Sahib was constructed during 1936-44 under the supervision
of Sant Hari Singh Kaharpuri. The Takht Sahib proper is a spuare
hall with a balcony in front over looking a spacious courtyards
on a lower level. On a platform in an inner domed room in the
middle of the hall are placed some weapons preserved as sacred
relics. Guru Granth Sahib ji is seated in front of the inner room.
Space on top of the hill being limited, the sarovar is on the
plain ground enclosed by a high wall west of th Takht Sahib, close
to the Ropar-Nangal road, and a spacious pavilion for larger congregation
is about 150 yards east of the Takht Sahib. Rows of rooms for
pilgrims are at the southern slope of the Kasgarh hill. |
